Do you want to get involved in California Young Democrats (CYD) and affect the decisions that shape CYD’s action in 2012 and beyond? Do you want to be the change you wish to see?
If you do, please apply for one of the CYD Statewide Action Team (SWAT) positions below. There are many opportunities for leaders like you to shape the structure, direction, and decisions of the organization. With your help, CYD will be prepared to hit the ground running in an exciting election season.

You may apply for more than one position, but you must fill out a separate application for each position you are interested in–you will not be selected for more than one office.

CYD SWAT APPOINTMENTS
SWAT Leader — Social Media Team
This team will work with the CYD Communications Director Lindsey Nitta to ensure the website is easy to navigate and that it addresses the needs of our organization. This team will also be responsible for rapid online response to CYD Press Releases & events. Members of this team can possess a wide range of skills and abilities, from writing computer code to strategic email planning to online social networking experience.
SWAT Leader — IT Team
Manages the IT Team and facilitates present and future technology needs and identifies proactive solutions to satisfy needs. The team assists CYD officers and staff with technology upgrades and troubleshooting of technology problems. Helps manage the website and other online social networking systems in collaboration with the CYD Webmaster & Social Networking teams.
SWAT Leader — Graphic Designer
CYD has many design needs for our website, presentations, manuals, and event invitations. You will be asked to brainstorm and mock up design ideas and review them with officers and staff to adjust designs to fit their needs or taste. You must have your own computer software to execute designs and artistic ability, creativity, and technical skills are essential.
SWAT Leader — Videographer
If you have a video camera and can commit to filming and editing one or more CYD projects, trainings and/or meetings we would love to see what you can put together. It is our goal to post as much helpful video on our website and YouTube channel.
SWAT Leader — Legislative Committee
In this position you will work closely with the CYD Political team under Director Jason Overman to help CYD stay connected to the legislative process in Sacramento. In addition to being responsible for organizational endorsements of Legislation , this committee will help us track legislation, write position papers on pending legislation, lobby legislators, help to coordinate lobby day, and many other legislative undertakings.
SWAT Leader — Marketing and Strategic Communications Committee
Apply to be part of this committee if you want to help strengthen the CYD brand and improvement of our internal and external communications strategies. Help to develop a statewide communication plan to facilitate communication between CYD and local chapters. Work with the CYD Secretary Carrie McFadden and CYD Communications Director Lindsey Nitta to edit listserves and message boards. Help to develop CYD’s message and relationships with the press. The committee will be in charge of regularly updating our blog, Facebook page, and working with our Social Media Team to ensure our message is reposted online.
SWAT Leader — Training Team
Help design, implement, and coordinate the CYD training programs. These programs are often web-based to facilitate statewide access to all chapters. Responsibilities include identifying trainers, creating curriculum, and advertising the trainings in coordination with the Internal Communications Committee.
SWAT Leader — Community Service Committee
Establish community service projects for Executive Committee meetings in collaboration with our CYD Community Service Liaison, Shanna Bailey, and help local chapters find opportunities in their own areas for participation. Promote positive non-campaign and political community participation for our organization on a statewide and local level to engage our members.
SWAT Leader — Credentials Committee
For the purposes of the first Credentials Committee meeting after the start of the new year, each club chartered thirty (30) days before the Executive Committee Meeting prior to the State Convention shall be entitled to a vote on the Credentials Committee.
It shall be the duty of the Credentials Committee to approve the true number of members of chartered clubs for the purpose of allocating votes at any statewide meeting requiring such representation. The Credentials Committee shall be formed by January 31 of each year. The President shall appoint the Leader of the Credentials Committee. The Leader must be a member in good standing of the California Young Democrats At no time during his or her service may the Leader run for election to any Office enumerated in the bylaws of the California Young Democrats.
SWAT Leader — Resolutions Committee
The Standing Committee on Resolutions consists of one member from each chartered club. The State President shall appoint the leader. The Resolutions Committee shall review all proposed resolutions. The Committee may recommend, reject, or amend a resolution prior to referring it to the membership or Executive Committee. Proposed resolutions shall be distributed to all members eligible to vote.
SWAT Leader — Finance Committee
Everything we want to do this year costs money! Be a part of the team that helps us raise it! Under the direction and the VP Finance and President- help make calls, plan events, and build a sustainable network of CYD Donors for years to come!
SWAT Leader — Political Affairs/ACTION committee
Help Identify the BEST opportunities for CYD to engage with campaigns to get the youth vote out this year! In coordination with Our Political and Regional directors- you can help organize your peers to maximize CYD’s boots on the ground for races and causes up and down the state!
